Project Management Workshop
Hey folks,
Wow! How much food did we have today? Loads. Fantastic effort on the part of Bristol’s Student Hub there. We’ve run a collaborative workshop on Project Management with them today facilitated by our veteran OPer Matt via The Converging World.
We also have Vince and John, fast becoming regulars and further developing their idea on home insulation and solar panels. They’re in the corner chatting about that.
Claire is working on her jewellery and we’ve just had a productive conversation about how to cost the items for sale. Turns out it’s quite tricky. The biggest cost component is the time, but ironically the greatest selling point is the quality of the materials. So a complicated dance there making sure that every item doesn’t take too long to create given the cost of materials and selling potential. But, as we discovered, it’s all a lot easier to calculate when you simply step through each calculation one component at a time and build up the overall picture piece by piece.
Raphael is exploring his future. His accountancy skills are a given, but he’s looking for something more fulfilling. He’s produced a wonderful mind-map, full of great themes like skills and opportunities. Now we’ve challenged him to do the same, but focused on people. It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of that.
Really, most folk are involved in the workshop and beavering away at developing their project concepts. I don’t want to interrupt for the sake of this blog so it’s hard to tell what exactly is going on. But from what I gather there’s a community space project being considered, a speaker tour and an ethical food event. Personally, I’m really hoping the last one goes ahead. Food creates community donchaknow
Anyhow, that’s pretty much it for today. Hopefully see you soon.
Alastair
