Projects are go!

Hey folks,

This is my first post for Open Platform, and I’m writing this while actually at today’s Open Platform session. My thinking is that it would be nice to share what we’re up to on a Tuesday session with you, dear reader, so you can see what you can get out of it.

Starting at the beginning. One of our newer members, Sam, is starting a carbon-free bicycle-based transport company Pedal Power Transport (http://www NULL.pedalpowertransport NULL.co NULL.uk/). Last week some of us helped him out on some logo ideas, but today he’s off to the YHA to join in with a meeting around cycle transport. Hopefully he finds something.

We also have 3 projects being worked on here at the 3rd Floor. Daphne and Eleanor spent some time chatting with some of the newer members and are now working on their CIC business, our partner organisation, Transition Mentoring. If you’re a business or charity looking for volunteers then get in touch at hello@transitionmentoring.com.

Vincent is getting some support from Tim and working through a marketing plan for his energy- and sustainability-centric home renovation business Fresh… (Creating Cosy Homes). No url on that yet, but after I finish this blog post I’ll probably chat with him about how that’s going and see if we can’t get him a web presence as soon as we can.

Lynne is currently playing with a brochure for her exciting project Clean Feet (http://cleanfeet NULL.org NULL.uk/). Although the website is still in development I happen to know that the work in the background is motoring along nicely and I wouldn’t be surprised to see something live in the not too distant future…. keep your eye out. If you are interested in getting a carbon calculator for your website send an email to lynne@cleanfeet.org.uk (lynne null@null cleanfeet NULL.org NULL.uk).

She’s also taking some time to engage with Andy about his fledgling ideas for creating a website for his consciousness raising nature-based venture Dialogue With Nature. In fact, they’ve just registered dialoguewithnature.wordpress.com (http://dialoguewithnature NULL.wordpress NULL.com), so hopefully we should be seeing something there soon. How’s that for progress!

And of course we also have a few of us just getting on with our own things. Annabelle is enjoying our new art’s supplies and drawing a beautiful little pastel picture which we’re trying to persuade her to let us upload here. Fingers crossed! Amber is updating her cv. She’s been professionally volunteering as a Teaching Assistant and checking it out to see if this works as a career move for her. But of course it’s the summer holidays so she’s having a look at other options, including paid work in September now that she has some experience. Let’s wish her all the best.

And our regular conversationalist Colin is working at being a total legend as is tidying away all the food and wiping the table. Result!

Ok, that’s it for today I think. Lots of laughter, random conversations about washing up techniques, and now an attempt to save a 1-hour long corrupted open office document. Ah, the joys of supportive environment.

Next week we’ll probably have a similar setup. There’s a possibility that Andy might run an introduction to his Dialogue with Nature consciousness workshop, and Colin has a few 25 minute nature films he’s going to bring along, should anyone want to relax on a sofa. Otherwise, just come along, get involved in the projects and CV writing on the go, or bring a laptop and work on yours…

See you soon!

Alastair
